Ucon: Redefining Mineral Water Packaging

Chi Forest's Innovative Design Wins Golden A' Packaging Design Award

Ucon, a high-quality drinking water brand from China, has revolutionized the packaging of mineral water with its unique design and sustainable approach. The brand's innovative packaging, designed by Chi Forest, has earned it the prestigious Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2022.

The Ucon bottle design takes inspiration from the natural process of water purification by stones. In Chinese Feng Shui theory, stones are believed to absorb the essence of the sun and the moon, and people have admired and obtained energy from these spiritual stones for thousands of years. The design of the bottle reflects this concept, with the upper part of the bottle body taking "stone" as the super symbol, and the lower part using a special ore bottle body design based on the parametric design of triangular planes. This design not only showcases harmony but also contrasts, making it stand out from other mineral water brands.

The realization of this design was achieved through advanced adagio printing technology, using environmentally friendly water-based ink. This approach significantly reduces pollution emissions during the label production process. The water source is also fully protected to ensure it remains pollution-free. The use of an advanced blowing, filling, and rotating production line ensures a high cleanliness of the filling environment, further guaranteeing that the filling process remains clean and pollution-free.

Ucon's unique design properties extend beyond its aesthetic appeal. The ore cutting design ensures a comfortable grip for the user, while its Chinese name, which translates to "social constitution," positions it as a natural "social currency" among the youth. The design is intended to quickly form a social topic among young people, making it more than just a mineral water brand.

The project, which started in October 2020 and was completed in July 2021, faced several challenges. One of the major challenges was to visually present the black rock texture, white dot texture, and gold stripe texture on the label. The solution was found in the use of Pearlized BOPP. Another challenge was to design the bottle in a way that it depicted the stone structure, while ensuring the aesthetic appeal and grip comfort. This was achieved through the design of triangular surfaces.

The Ucon design is a testament to Chi Forest's commitment to innovation and sustainability. It is a design that not only meets the needs of identification but also perfectly interprets the brand story of "Every drop of water is naturally filtered through underground deep ore". The design's minimalist approach, deeply rooted in Chinese culture, is a powerful attitude that is reflected in the name of the product as well as in the new generation of consumers.
